7 Day Weekend Review

When I checked out Facebook this week for new music, I was completely hyper when I came acrossWarringtonbased band, 7 Day Weekend. Wow where do I start with this group of talented British artists.

I went on to their music section of their FB and pressed play, and man I was blown away. Without trying to put people in to specific genres, this is pop punk music at its best. Ghosts of Me is a fecking amazing, straight away it encourages me to want to get up and have a mini moshing session. I may be in the library at the moment, but screw it I am not letting a little thing like location restrict me enjoying awesome music.

The rythmn of this track is fast, catchy and the vocals are captivating. If you think that’s amazing however, you aint heard nothing until you check out, ‘Mistakes’. My street teamers and readers know I totally love new music, so when I heard this track by 7 Day Weekend my hyperness and adrenaline went to the next level. Usually people refer to the likes of Red Jump Suit Apparatus or Simple Plan being the front runners when it comes to pop punk.

I would of agreed at one point, but fuck me I definitely throwing that assumption out the window, because 7 Day Weekend just leave me speechless. The best thing as well is that they are a new and upcoming British band. I am only listening to their music on the computer, so if I am getting this happy, imagine what I would be like if I were to be lucky enough to see them live. Woah just thinking about it I know it would deffo be one show not worth missing!

My absolute favourite track by this fabulous band however is ‘Seasons Like These’. Imagine your favourite cocktail – this song is a beautiful fusion of all the ingredients that make it perfect. Beats which are catchy, and lyrics with depth and meaning. Throw in lots of energy and passion, and your in heaven!

If you do your research you will find out that the band have a debut EP out at the moment – and if you don’t have it, go buy it now because 7 Day Weekend are worth investing in!

Big Groove Records

 By Dee

This week has been an absolute gold mine for different genres of music. I was recently contacted by Ekow via email who told me about the label Big Groove Records and two of their artists, EKA and Indiscretion. As both these acts were totally new to me, I was uncertain what to expect when I went to investigate their music.

Going to the official Big Groove Records Website – I came across two music videos which straight away made my eyes light up. The two videos were, “Something More’ by EKA and ‘Jus the Groove’ by Indiscretion.

The one which made me hyper the most was EKA’s video. Based around a female football match between ladies wearingBraziland England T shirts, in the nice hot sun shine, watching this video just makes you feel good.

Background to this song describes it as:

“Big diva vocals over a classic funky house back ground, with its anthemic chorus.”

From reading this I was not sure whether or not I would like it, but damn how wrong I was. You could feel the energy and the character that Something More had to offer. It was definitely that stays inside your head to the point where you can just see yourself humming the tune away. If people stop and stare at you – let them, because this song and video is so insane and fabulous to resist the urge to keep the beat alive in your head would be a total sin.

What Indiscretion offer in their video, ‘Jus the Groove’ is a complete contrast.  The video for this was created by the help of a Canadian Film Director, Jordan Kotras – and is by far an exceptional and brilliant video. A smooth little number, which mixes together catchy beats, style and elegance and a bit of jazz – you can really feel the music getting into your mind.

If you watch the video as I did, it brings a smile to your face to see how Kotras ensured this video showed some of our country’s finest landmarks. Not only this is complemented when you see a mysterious yet beautiful lady named Rebecca playing her Saxaphone. You can just see that she is feeling the music and enjoying it too.

I am completely happy that Ekow decided to tell me about these two artists, because not only am I excited about what I heard and saw, but I eagerly await to see what else Big Groove Records has to offer.

Insomniac Review

By Dee

Insomniac are taking their music to new heights by unleashing some of their own music. In the past you could only hear their material if you were lucky enough to see them perform in our local area. Although it may be good to see a new young group perform live in front of you – it also makes you wonder what it would be like if you heard a local band’s material on your ipod or cd player! It’s a good way to show that a band are willing to push themselves to take their passion of music forward.

Angus & Joe – members of the band dropped me a message to tell me to check out some of their recorded material on You Tube. At present the song has no allocated title – just the name Demo!

I was totally blown away from what I heard. Yes it may be a rough edit and a demo, but for a first attempt its fucking fantastic! The beats are catchy, and musically well balanced. When the vocals kick in oh my god I was just smiling with amazement. Close your eyes while listening and you can feel the passion, focus and maturity in the lead vocalist’s voice.

Without sounding patronizing, this is a relatively new band and if they are creating material like this they are definitely going to create a positive impact on the local music scene.

Check out the Youtube video right now – because it’s a piece of music which any band – be they local or international, should be proud of!
