Burning Crows

British rock and roll music does not get any better than The Burning Crows. I am always passionate about the local music scene, so it came as an actual delight when the guys got in touch with Darkus Magazine, and asked if I could take some time out to check out their music.

Often when people do something like that, I approach with a open mind, so as Burning Crows were new to me, I went in with the same attitude. Sure I could of gone on to their Facebook and checked out a lot of their tracks, however as a new potential fan, I set the guys the task of picking me some of their favourites that they believed would convert me in an instant. Feck Me! Not only did they rise to the challenge, but they gave me tracks guaranteed to liven up anyone’s mind.

‘Best Damn Everything’ has to be one of the best songs from a local band I have heard in the past few weeks. Its old fashion rock and roll but a touch of fresh air, thus taking it to the next level. People often speak about legends such as Guns and Roses and Kiss. While those artists may be top class, Burning Crows really shine in this track. A steady yet energetic pace to the track had me sitting in my chair bopping my head up and down as I typed away. Although focused on work at the time, I could just imagine myself having a quick break to not just dance but get out the air guitar to the amazing skill and talent Burning Crows have.

This is only the first track I listened to so what about some of the others? ‘Time’ – wow what a song! This track is brilliantly constructed because as well as the fantastic beats, its presented in a way that allows a listener to focus carefully on the thing which make this song beautiful – the lyrics! 2 songs down and I think not only was I past being converted, I was starting to think what to wear if ever I was lucky to see these guys perform.

My ultimate favourite track from Burning Crows which got me on my feet in a flash, and encouraged me to just go wild and jump with hyperness on my bed was ‘Slow Up, Get Down’. This was just the right song which regardless of your mood, is guaranteed to get you in the party spirit and liven up your day. I think I may of annoyed the neighbours by singing Slow Up Get Down in a loud voice haha – but to hell with it I just loved this song but the only way to deal with critical people is to crank up the volume!

The speaker levels went up even higher once, ‘You, Me, Tonight’ came on. This is a definite party song, full of stunning vocals, plenty of attitude and beats to make you go wild with excitement.

Burning Crows have definitely impressed me a lot, and what is best is that they bring an energy to the music scene, that if they maintain will result in them achieving many great opportunities.

Burning Crows you have the Darkus seal of approval! Keep up the Good Work!!

Design The Skyline are back doing what they do their best, creating first class amazing music. The team at Victory informed me about their music video, ‘Break Free From Your Life’, therefore being a fan of their material it was important that I checked out the video for my self.

Listening and watching the fantastic material took me back to bands such as Silverstein, another Victory band who helped me in my journey to alternative music in my university days. Design The Skyline are similar to them, however they also have their own unique twist and edge which makes them stand out.

In terms of the song itself, the lyrics are deep and go nicely with the fast catchy beat. I just wanted to mosh non stop to this. Lord knows how many times I pressed the replay button on this video. I ask many bands I come across the song that gets their adrenaline pumping. From a listener point of view ‘Break Free From Your Life’ is a definite contender for me.

What about the video itself then? Unlike other videos you see there are no gimmicks, which some artists try to use to distract the attention from the music. This video is simple and straight to the point which I like because it shows what makes Design The Skyline a fantastic up and coming band – the energy, passion and commitment from all members of the band which make them a pleasure not just to listen to but watch as well.

Your probably wondering to yourself when you can see this brilliant up and coming new band. If you happen to be in the USAduring August you can catch them on their headline tour supported by friends Amyst and Silence the Messenger. If you are not that fortunate however never fear because you can still be part of the Design The Skyline experience by getting your hands on their most recent album Nevaeh, which is available in all good stores now !

With Newcastle Fashion Week occurring at the end of May, I wanted to speak to some of the models who took part in the incredible catwalks. A special thank you to Constance Peach for taking the time out of her busy schedule to speak to Darkus Magazine.

Dee: How did you first get into modeling?

Constance: I am primarily a burlesque artist and really only started modeling to support my performance. It soon became apparent that I had just as much passion for posing as i did for dancing. I absolutely love high concept shoots with over the top costuming and makeup. The crazier the better!

Dee: What has been your highlight of 2012 so far?

Constance: 2012 has been an amazing year so far. I have worked with so many fabulous designers and photographers. Biggest highlight though has been modelling for Tallulah Loves Lingerie. Some girls love bags, some shoes. I love lingerie! I have boxes of lingerie just waiting to be worn so when I got asked to model for such an exclusive brand I was like a kid in a sweet shop 🙂

Dee: I saw you at Newcastle’ Fashion Week’s – As You Like It Event – what was the most rewarding thing about that experience?

Constance: Newcastle Fashion week was incredible. it was a joy to model for so many talented designers and all from the region! I really enjoyed bring elements of burlesque to catwalk and some of my character

Dee:  Obviously you were modelling a variety of amazing clothes – what was your favourite clothes range to wear during As You Like It catwalk?

Constance: I can’t have a favorite! Everything was incredible the hats by The Libertarian, Tallulah Loves Lingerie, Christopher Niari and Suzanne Porter. it was just an absolute pleasure to get to work with North East designers who are just so creative and talented

Dee: From a model point of view – what kinds of preparation goes on when taking part in a catwalk event?

Constance: I treat all my catwalks as a show. People want to see the clothes as they intend to wear them. It was wonderful injecting some burlesque into NFF I like to bring ‘Catwalk Character’ to shows. Other prep is all the behind scenes action like hair and makeup, trying on clothes etc. You would not believe how unglamorous it is getting into 7 outfit changes of lingerie!

Dee: When you got the call that you would be taking part in Newcastle Fashion week – what was your first reaction?

Constance: Excited and full of anticipation of what this years catwalk would be like. I was also really happy that I was modelling alongside other performers I work with in the industry and respect such as Elle O’buoys, Bettina Spankenhaus, Princess Pandora and Felicity Switch

Dee: What do you enjoy most about modelling?

Constance: The thrill and adrenaline of it all. i absolutely love creating art in any form possible

Dee: Have you got any more shows coming up where we can see you in your element?

Constance: I have burlesque shows on the 14th July and 28th September. check out www.constancepeach.co.uk and www.casabelliniburlesque.co.uk for more details

Dee: Here at Darkus Magazine, many people know I am totally crazy about my music. If you were to choose a song that gets your adrenaline going while you were doing a catwalk what would it be?

Constance: Ooh a tough one! I absolutely love music suited to the clothes rather then myself but I love walking down to electro or swing music and i’m a sucker for 80’s music

Young London

Recently Darkus Online Magazine, teamed up with an amazing label called Maphia Management. A label that is connected to the likes of Eyes Sets to Kill, I was intrigued to see what other artists these guys worked with. Having searched the artist roster, my eyes were instantly lit up on a duo who call themselves Young London.

So what do we know about Young London, well the two talented stars behind this act are Matt and Sarah. Starting back only in 2011, they quickly realized that their writing styles combined to form a unique, catchy electro-pop style. I think they should be commended for this, because in the world of alternative music many artists tend to go to genres such as metal, screamo, pop-punk or something in between. Maphia Management deals with quite a few bands into heavier genres, so all credit to Young London for breaking the mould and doing their own thing.

AT present Matt and Sarah have a debut album out, self titled Young London. The guys at Maphia were able to hook me up with a copy to check out. From the outset I was totally amazed, not only are the beats catchy but there addictive too. This album has 10 tracks in total and as debuts go, I think its just enough to get people to instantly fall in love with their music.

Every song was unique and fascinating, but there were a few in particular that took my hyperness to the next level. One song in particular was, ‘Be My Radio’. With vocals from both Sarah and Matt, this is a good song to show how equally talented both these people are. Not only this but you cant help but smile just listening to this song. The lyrics are deep and meaningful, and full of so much positive emotion, which makes me love this track even more.

I often ask artists which songs make them get their adrenaline going, but on this occasion the one which got the energy going for me was Whipped. WOW! I love the way how the song tells a story, and gets you thinking about standing up for yaself, and stop being a push over.

Another one, which I could imagine getting into the party mood too, is The Good Stuff. For me its about just enjoying life to the full and gives you a good vibe and buzz!

Young London are definitely created a name for themselves in the music industry. There is something about this band which makes them different to the other artists I come across. The fact that the band have only been active for over a year, makes me excited to see how Young London raise the standards even higher for their future releases. I can see them going far, because they are doing their own thing, in a short time, and will total class, quality and brilliance!
